Apple Rejects Read It Later 2.2

Some sites are reporting that Apple has rejected Read it later 2.2 because it requires a login function. We don’t know the full story but we do know our way around the Apple app store approval process. When submitting an app you have spcifiy if you have to login to reach certain features. If you do then you have to give login info for Apple to get into or they will reject it.

We are pretty sure Apple rejected because they forgot to give this login information. No need to blow up.

AppleRumors iPhone app 1.1 is live! 1.2 submitted

Tonight we got the green light from Apple on our app update 1.1. This update simply fixes a bug where ads wouldn’t show. If you don’t like ads then don’t worry we have a $0.99 app that is ad free in the submission process now along with 1.2 update that adds some nice styling to the articles.

We will run a contest that lets you get the paid app for free every month. More details on that to come. :)

Sony PSP ad takes aim at Apple

Sony has taken aim at Apple in one of their new ads. Of course Sony is feeling a little threatened by Apples gaming market success on the iPhone. Sony’s ad is basically saying that the PSP has full featured games with complete story lines, while the iPhone games are for just killing time. Take a look at the video after the break to see the ad.

Camera+ app pulled from the app store

Taptaptap’s camera app was pulled from the app store today because of a built in easter egg. The developer originally submitted an update to the app store that would allow you to take a picture with the volume button rather than taping the screen. The update was rejected on the grounds of “user confusion”. So, TapTapTap decided to remove the feature, then build it in, in an easter egg. They posted, and removed, a tutorial on how to enable it. It was too late, Apple caught wind of it and ripped it down from sales.

Volume purchase for the App Store goes live

Apple has announced that they are letting educational institutions buy large volumes of iOS apps. Apple states in their FAQ “Only Program Facilitators set up by Apple Online Authorized Purchasers at educational institutions are eligible to redeem Volume Vouchers through the Volume Purchase Program.”

This is a great little program for universities that are buying up iPads and iPods for their courses.

Apple adds “Try before you buy” section to the App Store

Apple seems to change their sections and featured items every other day. This time the have added a “Try before you buy” section to what we think, combat app piracy. The section features a lot of the free versions or lite versions of paid apps.

iDisk Allows for MP3 Streaming; Starts Medias Engines

With this blog post, Michael Robertson has started a media frenzy. In iOS4 you can listen to music in the background, and Apple updated the iDisk app to let you listen to music that is on your iDisk and stream it. This doesn’t seem like huge news to me, but to other sites it does. Mike makes sure you know that this isn’t a very close to a iTunes cloud based system:

This is not “iTunes in the cloud” but it is definitely moving the Cupertino company in that direction. First off there is no automated way to get all your iTunes music to your iDisk account. To load files to iDisk you have to select individual files and upload them from your browser. (Apple does let you sync Calendars, Contacts, Bookmarks, etc directly from OSX but excludes music files.) Secondly there’s no support for playlists so your iTunes playlist do not work in iDisk. There seems to be no way to play a list of files. Cover art is not supported as well. And while iDisk will cache other files, it will not cache music files. Still it’s not hard to see how Apple is adding features to enable it to support audio in it’s cloud storage business.

Makes perfect sense to me. If you think this is the cloud service, you are simply reading too far into this.
